GAP - During the summer holidays, the SOS Children's Village Weilheim organized a climbing course on the Alpspitze.

With this very special holiday pleasure, young people from the families with outpatient support and the internally assisted living grew beyond themselves.

Most of the youngsters went up a mountain in a gondola for the first time. So even the trip with the Alpspitzbahn up to the Osterfelderkopf was an experience. The first challenge was waiting upstairs. Despite their fear of heights, all young people dared to go to the Alpspix viewing platform and dared to enjoy the spectacular view about 1,000 meters down into the Höllentalklamm, the valley with Garmisch-Patenkirchen and the surrounding mountain peaks.

The "Bergführer Zugspitzland" around Udo Knittel have created a practice garden on the Alpspitze. Before starting the via ferrata, the participants practiced with Udo Knittel a safe step and balance in the terrain. Without body tension and concentration, nothing works here. However, if the tension is too much, the muscles cramp. In addition, the young people trained their ability to concentrate and learned to assess their own bodies.

The young people then applied what they had learned on the via ferrata.

Most of the youngsters found it difficult to climb the steep rock.

Well secured and under professional guidance, the youngsters quickly learned to move around safely and to trust their own abilities.

All the youngsters managed the via ferrata to the transition to the ferrata (via ferrata on the Alpspitze). They gathered all their courage and let themselves be rappelled at the abseiling point.

After the via ferrata they were very proud of themselves and were happy with the other participants about the common sense of achievement.

They then ended the day together with food and drink in the restaurant on the Almbahn.

Adventure education in the SOS Children's Village in Weilheim

Sports activities such as climbing or rafting have not only fun and exercise in the fresh air, but also various functions in experiential education.

Here the children and young people learn to leave their comfort zone and overcome fears.

Successful experiences are then very immediate and encourage the children to face new challenges.

It is very important to SOS Children's Village Weilheim to make children and young people enjoy media-free leisure activities.

It promotes experiential educational offers and supports employees with further training offers.
