Under the epidemic, young people who lack work experience have difficulty finding job opportunities, and it has a greater impact on young people with special needs.

This coincided with the establishment of the "Epidemic Prevention and Anti-epidemic Fund" by the government in February last year. It has twice allocated funds to open 60,000 public and private organizations with a time-limited period of no more than 12 months.

Heep Hong Society was allocated 38 places to hire young people with special needs, and finally successfully hired 26 young people with special needs, including autism, limited intelligence, lack of concentration, etc., as center assistants through the project. Since their work performance is satisfactory, Heep Hong Society hopes that the plan can be regularized.

Through the "Job Creation Project" of the "Epidemic Prevention and Anti-epidemic Fund" at the beginning of last year, the Heep Hong Society hired 26 young people with special needs as center assistant positions in the center, responsible for information technology, paperwork, and assistance in epidemic prevention.

Among them, Thomas, a 26-year-old young man with autism, majored in computer in his junior college. After graduation, he worked as clerical staff in different organizations. Last year, his former employer was layoffs by his former employer due to the reduction in staff due to the epidemic. Thomas' current boss and director of the Fu Cheong Center of Heep Hong Society, Wu Fengzhi, is very satisfied with his work performance. "Thomas was nervous when he first joined the company. Because the center has more than 30 employees, it is indeed difficult for young people with autism to adapt. Later, we arranged for colleagues to guide him to help him adapt to the new environment. In addition, since it is difficult for autistic people to cope with sudden changes, if there is a change in work, we will notify him in advance so that he can be psychologically prepared. Reduce his anxiety." It has been 9 months since Thomas joined the company. His colleagues have praised him for being polite and responsible, getting along well with colleagues, and being able to perform well in his position.

Thomas said, "It is not easy to find a suitable job, and I will cherish this job."

Heep Hong Society stated that when hiring young people with special needs through the plan, the organization provided a full range of support packages. For example, in terms of human resources, the working time of this position was reduced to 30 hours per week. Zhong Yuehua, project manager of Heep Hong Club Jockey Club’s "Create Possibilities" Project, said that this project adopts an advantage-based support model to help young people with special needs adapt to the environment as soon as possible. Strengthening training is different from providing training to meet the requirements of the position for the weaknesses of young people. Take Thomas as an example. He gives everyone a good impression of being polite. Therefore, after discussing with his boss, we arrange for him to be in charge of the reception of the center. He was able to handle the epidemic prevention work, registering visitors and taking body temperature very well."

The Chief Executive Officer of Heep Hong Society, Leung Wai Ling, pointed out, "Heep Hong Society has always attached great importance to the development and needs of young people with special needs. It has always hired young people with special needs to work in the organization. Under the epidemic situation, it is even clearer that SEN youths are more face-to-face than ordinary youths. She believes that the plan has been satisfactory since its implementation. In addition to relying on government funding, the top-down support from the board of directors and the management of the organization is also very important. At the same time, colleagues know that the plan can increase additional manpower for the center. They all welcome it, save a lot of lobbying effort, and successfully achieve a win-win situation for the government, employers and employees." She urged the government to provide funding for organizations such as manpower and resources to increase The incentives for organizations to hire young people with special needs are considering regularizing the "Job Creation Program". She also believes that the government should take the lead by increasing the recruitment of a certain percentage of young people with special needs and other disabled people. It may also consider implementing a pilot program. Provide facilities similar to youth hostels, through short-term accommodation and social work support, to train high-functioning autistic youths in independent living and job hunting skills.
