Japan issued an alert Friday (September 17th) after a volcano erupted in the southwest of the country, which threw large boulders nearly a kilometer from the crater, Kyodo news agency reported.
According to Kyodo, no injuries were immediately reported after the eruption of Mount Otake, on an island in Kagoshima prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency set the alert level at three - on a scale of five, where five triggers evacuation - to restrict access to the area around the volcano after the eruption at around 2 a.m. (1700 GMT Thursday).
Multiple initial "explosions" took place in the crater Thursday, the agency said, quoted by Kyodo, which warned that large boulders thrown by the volcano could land within a radius of two kilometers.

A similar eruption took place at Mount Otake in March, for which the meteorological agency had also issued a level 3 alert. much of the world's earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are recorded.
