The industrial and crafts sector in Daraa witnessed a remarkable growth during the past two months as a result of the encouraging measures and facilities granted by the concerned authorities, after overcoming the problem of administrative licensing of establishments, which led to the suspension of the licensing process.
The Director of Industry, Eng. Imad Al-Rifai, stated in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that the Directorate of Industry has licensed, during the past two months, 22 industrial facilities that varied between food, chemical, engineering and textile, pointing out that most of the licensed facilities were in the food sector, with a total of 16 facilities with a capital of one billion Syrian pounds, which will employ 32 workers when placed in investment. It included food appetizers and storage and refrigeration units, while 4 chemical facilities were licensed with a capital of 1.8 billion pounds, which varied between the manufacture of sponges and the renewal of plastic, paints and plastic containers.
He added that the directorate issued one licensing decision for an engineering facility specialized in spreading stone blocks with a capital of 150 million pounds, while one textile facility specialized in automatic embroidery and women's clothing was licensed with a capital of 50 million pounds. Its capital is 900 million pounds and employs 58 workers.
With regard to craft establishments, Al-Rifai indicated that the Directorate granted licensing decisions for 12 different food trades, including all kinds of pies, tourist bread, sweets, pastries, fodder crushing and grain sifting with a capital of 200 million employing 15 workers, while 8 licensing decisions were granted in the engineering sector related to tiles, blocks, marble cutting and blacksmithing. The French, with a capital of 100 million pounds, employs 10 workers, indicating that 17 engineering and food trades obtained industrial records, with a capital of 270 million pounds, employing 30 workers.
