The Secretary for Education, Yang Runxiong, stated in early March this year that he is discussing the details of national security work with eight funded universities. HKBU, Lingnan University and PolyU have all introduced National Security Education from this school year
The Hong Kong Baptist University stated earlier that all newly enrolled undergraduates from the new academic year must complete compulsory national security education courses before graduation.
Courses are not counted towards graduation credits, but there are assessments; the content will cover areas such as network security, environmental safety and public health.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University also lists national security education as a compulsory subject for first-year undergraduates, teaching different topics and related legal knowledge to protect national security.
Lingnan University stated that it will introduce the development of the country and Hong Kong in common core courses, integrated learning courses, seminars and lectures, including national security issues.
