Further corona (partial) lockdowns?

A topic in the election campaign.

But the GroKo is apparently preparing internally - and thus massively irritating the opposition.

Update from September 14, 1:02 p.m.:

The Ministry of Economic Affairs * reacted to reports about financial arrangements for trade fair cancellations in the second Corona autumn. The answer from Peter Altmaier's (CDU) department left room for interpretation: A spokeswoman confirmed that an “additional safeguarding instrument” for the trade fair industry was in the works - but at the same time emphasized: “The federal government is not planning a new partial lockdown. That's nonsense."

However, there is now a second source for the existence of the stumbling block, a paper from the economic department. The dpa reported that it was a letter from the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Bettina Hagedorn, to the budget committee of the Bundestag. In it, the Ministry of Economic Affairs applied for funds amounting to 150 million euros for possible additional expenditure in connection with a planned failure protection instrument for trade fairs and exhibitions.

The ministry spokeswoman said that stand builders and exhibitors have to act with long planning and lead times and continue to be confronted with restrictions on their business operations.

The letter reportedly said there was a "high risk of failure for trade fairs and exhibitions due to corona-related restrictions" due to rising incidences.

Most recently, however, major trade fairs have already taken place in Germany, such as the controversial IAA Mobility in Munich.

It therefore seems obvious that the planned default instrument is aimed at the consequences of newly introduced corona restrictions.

The spokeswoman's denial could therefore refer to one word above all: to “planning” a partial lockdown.

Partial lockdown precautions leaked?

New paper should reveal Merkel's plans for autumn and winter

First report:

Berlin - Of course, no politician wants to talk about the approaching corona lockdowns in the election campaign - not even the federal government.

In the latest TV triumphs, for example, Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz * (SPD) and CDU boss Armin Laschet * also focused on preventive measures.

But on Tuesday it became known that the basis of the debate within GroKo seems to be different.

Apparently, Angela Merkel's (CDU) federal government is preparing at least for event cancellations and the monetary consequences.

Corona lockdown in Germany?

Altmaier's application could reveal preparations in Merkel's government

According to a report by

Bild

, Minister of Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier (CDU) sent

a telling application to the Bundestag's budget committee: It is apparently about the release of 150 million euros as possible economic aid in the event that trade fairs and exhibitions are canceled.

The sheet does not give the date of dispatch of the letter.

But it seems clear that it refers to the coming autumn and winter.

There is a "high risk of failure for trade fairs and exhibitions due to corona-related restrictions,"

from a letter.

According to Altmaier's department, the reason for the assessment is "again sharply increasing incidences and the stagnating willingness to vaccinate as well as the beginning of the cooler season with easier virus spread".

Bundestag election and Corona: GroKo politicians appeased on the subject of lockdown - FDP irritated

The fact that there are provisions for another Corona autumn may be seen as positive in principle: In the past, Merkel's GroKo had repeatedly been noticed with a lack of preparation for quite foreseeable pandemic events *.

According to several experts, the vaccination quota in Germany is currently not yet sufficient to ensure a calm, cold season.

However, the communication of the federal government is criticized.

Vice Chancellor Scholz had recently spoken out clearly against further lockdowns in the election campaign.

Laschet - although not directly involved in the government, but at least head of the largest coalition party - had even excluded it *.

The FDP parliamentary group was outraged on Tuesday.

"If the federal government has more information about the course of the pandemic and further lockdowns, it should inform the citizens now and not wait for the federal election," said budget expert Otto Fricke of the
