The Organization of the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Areas and Arid Lands “ACSAD” and Al-Baath University in Homs today signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance scientific and technical cooperation between them, develop scientific research and community service, and work to develop theoretical and applied knowledge to achieve comprehensive and sustainable community development, especially in the field of the agricultural sector.

The memorandum provides for scientific and technical understanding between the two sides in the areas of conducting scientific and academic research and studies that contribute to achieving optimal investment of natural and human resources in the areas of developing the productive efficiency of plant and animal species and breeds, integrated and sustainable development of specific areas, rehabilitation and investment of degraded areas, optimal uses of water resources, their development and development, generation and transfer and localization of appropriate agricultural techniques.

The two parties agreed to implement programs to train technical and scientific cadres in the fields of joint work and benefit from the infrastructure of the university and the Arab Center “ACSAD” to serve the interests of both parties through the implementation of field experiments, laboratory research and field studies in stations, laboratories and farms of both sides and scientific and technical cooperation in the implementation of projects and research plans Scientific and academic studies.

The two parties also agreed to exchange technical and academic cadres, publish individual or joint research within the interests of ACSAD Magazine and the University Journal, participate in supervising postgraduate students “Master’s and PhD”, document and publish the results of research, studies and projects jointly and in the name of the two parties, exchange consultations and scientific meetings to serve the interests of both parties and exchange books and magazines and publications.

Dr. Nasr El-Din Al-Obaid, Director-General of ACSAD, stressed in a statement after signing the memorandum of understanding that it embodies the constructive cooperation relations between the organization, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Al-Baath University in various fields of common interest, stressing the importance of effective cooperation and its development to serve Arab scientific research institutions aimed at developing agricultural research. Noting that this memorandum is complementary to the agreements signed between ACSAD, ministries, federations and unions in Syria to advance the agricultural, environmental and scientific sector.

Al-Obeid praised the experiences of professors and researchers in all Syrian universities and welcomed further cooperation with them in sustainable agricultural development processes in Syria and the Arab countries.

Dr. Abdul Basit Al-Khatib, President of Al-Baath University, pointed to the importance of the memorandum of understanding, as it will open wide horizons for serious and fruitful work between the two parties, indicating that the cooperation came as a continuation of the step taken by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research by signing a scientific and academic cooperation agreement with the organization last May to enhance scientific and research cooperation in Establishing sound rules for sustainable development, especially that Al-Baath University always seeks to develop the agricultural sector by giving special importance to scientific agricultural research and studies and providing this sector with specialized technical cadres.
