Moosburg

- Important visit to the Dreirosenstadt: On Tuesday, Norbert Walter-Borjans, Federal Chairman of the SPD, paid a visit to Moosburg.

Together with comrades from all over the district, we first went to a company visit to the industrial park.

Orhan Söhmelioglu, managing director of the Degernpoint-based catering supplies retailer SWS Schüler and head of the Essenbach mask company SWS Medicare, invited the delegation to an entrepreneur exchange. SWS Medicare supplies the federal government with masks made in Germany - and this contract expires at the end of the year. Söhmelioglu is chairman of the German Mask Association, which produces 19.3 million FFP2 masks and over 50 million medical masks every week.

The entrepreneur showed the SPD politician that the companies would cover the demand for Germany in the event of global lockdowns. At the same time, the Moosburger made it clear that there is great nervousness in the industry: If you want to secure a basic supply in Germany, the companies would still need government contracts. Because in the meantime the masks would be reliably imported again in huge quantities from Asia, where production is much cheaper. The Moosburg businessman reported that his company had shrunk from around 250 to 110 employees and that after the contracts with the federal government had expired, they could only live on reserves for a few months. Politicians, so his appeal, must decide soon after the federal election, whether they want to support German companies as a systemically important industry with the medical material in order not to be caught so coldly again by a new pandemic in the future.

New packaging solutions

Orhan Söhmelioglu also underscored his fighting spirit with his other company, the trade for catering and hygiene supplies.

After one-way packaging was largely banned by the EU, SWS Schüler developed the “Nomoi” reusable packaging system, which Söhmelioglu would like to establish together with local restaurateurs.

Norbert Walter-Borjans was interested in the model - and the message regarding the masks was also received.

"We have to increase transparency," said the SPD politician on the allegation that after bribery scandals, politicians no longer wanted to have anything to do with mask manufacturers.

According to the top politician, he considers a basic supply with masks made in Germany to be quite possible.

Visit to the Stalag Museum

A huge change of subject was then the visit to the Stalag Museum, where Walter-Borjans, City Councilor Martin Pschorr and the former Mayor Anton Neumaier, received two veteran Moosburg Social Democrats.

Both told the story of the prison camp and the attempt to preserve the last places of memory.

Norbert Walter-Borjans was visibly upset when he looked at photos of prisoners in the museum in Neustadt.

He also asked what life had been like in the camp and why American prisoners had been treated better than Italians or Russians.

Norbert Walter-Borjans also received a specific request during his history class in Moosburg: Pschorr and Neumaier made it clear that the creation of a modern Stalag information center and the preservation of the Sabathiel barracks would only be possible with the support of the state and the federal government.

"We have a great collection of responses to our inquiries to the various institutions," said Neumaier, the long-time local chief, "but we actually didn't get a penny."

Norbert Walter-Borjans had come to Moosburg to listen carefully to both of his stations.

He took the information and the needs with him without making great promises.

And he was adopted by the comrades from the district with the invitation to be welcome again at any time.

Only one place in the district took part in the nationwide day of action for the open monument: on the site of the former Stalag VII A in Moosburg.
