In one of the most populated neighborhoods of the City, where hamburger and brewery chains, among other “mainstream” items, dominate the gastronomic scene,
a new proposal
bursts forth
: the Mercat Caballito, with a foodie stamp similar to its older brother
. the Mercat Villa Crespo, inaugurated in March at Thames 747.
One block from Acoyte and Rivadavia, on the new second floor of Shopping Caballito, there will be
14 stores and a market for organic products
.
“It is a disruptive proposal,
a model similar to the Gourmet Experience of El Corte Inglés or Harrods
.
They are stores that have a gastronomic market below or above ”, anticipates Marcelo Pirogovsky, one of its creators.
How is the Mercat Caballito going to be
Unlike Mercat Villa Crespo, this new venture will combine two different commercial modalities.
On the one hand,
bars, restaurants, bars and cafes
whose dishes can be consumed on site, by delivery or take away.
In addition, the market will be covered by
270 meters of low shelves of organic products
that will end in a line of boxes.
The new Mercat Caballito will have 270 linear meters of gondolas and 250 places to sit.
Those who choose to eat there will have
250 seating spaces
distributed throughout the market that will have a total of
1,200 m2
.
This second floor was added to the shopping mall after the incorporation of a building on Rosario Street that was joined to a warehouse.
With an “urban” vibe, the Mercat revolutionizes the culinary offer of the shopping center - which only had a McDonald's - and the neighborhood.
“
In Caballito there is little gastronomic offer in relation to its population density
and that is because there are not as many places available as in Villa Devoto or Villa Urquiza, among other growing areas.
To have found a place like this where you can work with a European concept is miraculous ”, says Marcelo Pirogovsky.
What can be bought and eaten at Mercat Caballito
Nuvola pizzas arrive at Mercat Caballito.
Almost all the venues that will
operate from December have
already been confirmed.
Among the 14 proposals are the
Korean food
restaurant
Kyopo
(which has a location in Aranguren at 3000),
the
Nuvola
pizzeria
and
Avocado Republic
(avocado-based cuisine that is already operating in Suipacha 920).
Some ventures that are in the Mercat Villa Crespo are also repeated, such as
the Lado A restaurant and delicatessen
, the
Moisha Bakery
Jewish bakery
and
La casa de Tafí
, specializing in empanadas.
Among the novelties, there will be a
rice shop specialized in risottos
.
Also, a drinks and wine bar and a cafeteria and patisserie, yet to be defined.
The pastrami from Side A will be sold at Mercat Caballito.
The organic market will be in charge of Argentbio Market, a firm that brings together small producers from all over the country. They will market
from bulk to fresh products such as agroecological fruits and vegetables.
The proposal seeks to be an instance that surpasses the supermarket (where food is industrial) and dietetics (where the offer is much less in quantity and variety).
“We also have nothing to do with a food court.
We are going to have dinner
: we will open until 24 in the week and Saturdays and Sundays until 3 AM.
And
we want to encourage night shopping
, so that you can go to the market until midnight like in the United States ”, explains Pirogovsky.
This is possible because the Mercat
will have a separate entrance from the shopping center
on Rosario Street.
Moisha bakery will be at Mercat Caballito.
Taking into account
the success of Mercat Villa Crespo
,
the investment partners of this new market are more than optimistic
.
“We are maintaining a peak of 50 thousand monthly visits without tourism and in a context in which the pandemic is just beginning to ease.
Considering the number of people who live in Caballito, this is very auspicious ”, predicts Pirogovsky.
