There is a general election on September 26th.
Until then, we will introduce the candidates from Munich.
Today Kerem Schamberger (left) from the constituency south.
Munich - As a child, Kerem Schamberger was a bookworm.
His mother was worried: The boy has to go out and meet friends!
"Then at some point I came home and said: Mom, I'm now a member of the communists."
Somehow she meant “out” differently, his mother said.
Schamberger laughs when he remembers it.
Now he wants to open a new chapter in his life: move into the Bundestag for the left in the south in the federal election in 2021 *.
His way: activism.
He knows how to do that because he has fought many fights.
One took place at the Uhrmacherhäusl, on the Obere Grasstrasse in Giesing *: Monument protectors against building lions.
The latter suffered a defeat: he had to rebuild the unlawfully demolished watchmaker's house true to the original.
"This is such a good example of what you can move from below if you organize yourself."
Federal election 2021: Munich candidate Kerem Schamberger "a big fan of social movements"
Schamberger has long been known in the left-wing scene and beyond.
But he has only been a member of the Die Linke party since August 2020.
“I'm a big fan of social movements, but they are often very monocausal.” What is needed is a transmission belt, an organization that unites different positions and implements them politically - that's a party.
"But I am and will remain an activist."
Schamberger has been politically active since 2001, the reason being the war in Afghanistan.
The incidents motivated the then 15-year-old to organize politically.
Schamberger is still interested in international issues today: he was only in Armenia last November as part of a delegation to document war crimes.
Federal election 2021: Schamberger (Left) declares war on rent madness in Munich
In the election campaign, however, he also focuses on other topics, such as the social consequences of the Corona * crisis or the rental market * in Munich *.
“The right to housing is such a fundamental thing that it shouldn't be traded on the market.” His goal: rent caps and the socialization of large real estate groups.
When he fights for something, it is with heart and soul and full commitment: demos, rallies, vigils, door-to-door election campaigns, information stands.
He also works as a lecturer at the university.
The 35-year-old recently submitted his dissertation in communication studies - magna cum laude.
Since last week he is officially Dr.
Kerem Schamberger.
He likes teaching: “I like to encourage young people to think for themselves.” Because neoliberal thinking is so firmly anchored in people's minds that they can hardly imagine a society apart from the logic of profitability, says Schamberger .
Federal election 2021: Schamberger (left) hopes for more with each other instead of against each other
And what does its social utopia look like?
“That would be a society in which there is no competition, no elbow society.
One in which you can do an apprenticeship and make a living from it, in which you can live together collectively in rental cooperatives. "
When he has time in addition to his political work and the election campaign, the Munich resident goes jogging, meets friends - or reads.
Political, too.
But preferably Stephen King.
