Established in July 1990, the Trade Union has 82 affiliated associations and is one of the largest trade union organizations in Hong Kong.
In addition to political issues, the Trade Union has launched many demonstrations and industrial actions to speak out on labor issues, including the container terminal labor movement in 2013 and the Haili Village cleaner strike in 2017. These two actions finally succeeded in reaching a consensus between labor and management.
Every Labor Day, the Workers’ Union holds a parade, together with various petitions and demonstrations over the years. The keywords mentioned in it are "collective bargaining rights", "seven days of paternity leave", "long working hours", "partial labor"... ... According to the
news, the Executive Committee of the Workers’ Union passed a resolution on dissolution last night (16th), will start the procedure, and will hold a general meeting of members to formally vote; Chairman Huang Lingyuan pointed out that Sunday (19th) will give a detailed account.
After the dissolution of the trade unions, these complaints seem to be hard to come by again. How many issues will be improved, and will anyone continue to represent them?
