Today Wednesday started with temperature records.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, 19 degrees were measured early in the morning, according to weather expert Jung.

“It is an extremely warm September morning,” the meteorologist sums up.

The nightly lows were also unusually high.

These humid air masses fuel the heavy rain and thunderstorms.

And they come from the Mediterranean, explains Dominik Jung.

Weather in September: 20 centimeters of fresh snow in the Alps

On Thursday night, the DWD weather experts are initially expecting “thunderstorms with the risk of heavy rain” and “local storms” in the east and south-east.

As the night continued, the thunderstorms would move eastwards.

Then especially over the middle of Germany with locally striking heavy rain - "around 15 l / m² in a short time" - to be expected.

In the Alps, the precipitation could then turn into continuous rain.

In terms of rain, a lot comes together.

Until Friday night the quantities add up to 50 l / m².

The weekend then remains rather changeable and mixed.

The maximum values decrease.

The temperatures are between 17 and 21 degrees.

“On Sunday it will be very fresh, especially at the edge of the Alps, where it barely reaches 10 degrees, and from 1500 to 1800 meters there can even be the first alpine snow of the season.

Up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow are easily possible from 2000 meters.

This will cause disabilities on some alpine passes, ”predicts meteorologist Dominik Jung.

It remains to be seen whether the weather expert is correct.
