Nick Gates

of the

New York Giants

suffered a terrible injury in the first game of Week 2 of the NFL, in what was a defeat for his team against the

Washington Football Team

, with a passionate ending, as American football tends to give away. .

But the sad note of the evening at the imposing FedEx Field in the US capital was Gates' injury, in one of the first plays of the match.

In his eagerness to protect an onslaught from the rival defense on his quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, the offensive lineman fell sharply on the grass and ended up receiving

an impact that caused him to break his left leg

.

The desperate cry of the 25-year-old, born in Las Vegas, realized the seriousness of the matter.

A feeling that was confirmed moments later, when the first replay of the TV, in slow motion,

showed Nick's lower limb severely damaged

Every week, the TNF game (Thursday Night Football, to be held on Thursday nights) is one of the great moments of the sports weekend in the United States, with broadcast throughout the country and therefore to the rest of the world.

In this case, upon detecting what had happened to Gates,

the signal broadcast by the NFL Network decided not to show the shocking scene again

.

A while later, after the work of the doctors on the grid, the player left the place with a bandage, sitting on a cart, with a good gesture and greeting the local public,

who dismissed his rival with applause

.

This Friday he was expected to undergo surgery and it is estimated that he will miss the rest of the season just started.

Minutes after suffering the fracture of his leg, Nick Gates leaves the stadium receiving the support of the local public for a player from the rival team.

The night ended as it began for the Giants, with a bitter taste.

A field goal by Dustin Hopkins in the last second

gave the WFT the victory 30-29,

keeping the count of two played and two lost for New York, a trend that they have been repeating in the last five seasons and that that's why it ranks them among the best teams in the league.

The joy remained in Washington, with a packed stadium celebrating the first triumph of the year of the "team without a name" (it was called Redskins and it still did not choose a new one), with the hope of qualifying again for the postseason as in 2020 and waiting of the debut of Sammis Reyes, the first Chilean to reach the NFL, but who has not yet jumped onto the field.
