He received the vaccinations only weeks before - then a Bavarian (50) fell ill with corona.

He had to go to the intensive care unit.

It's an unusual case.

Landau - Xhavit Ismajli still enjoyed his vacation in Kosovo, his homeland - at least in the first few days. Then the 50-year-old from Landau an der Isar (district of Dingolfing-Landau *) noticed: He didn't smell anything. “Suddenly my whole body hurt. I had aching limbs, ”he recalled. Typical signs of a corona infection *. Then he started the journey home - and had to go to the intensive care unit. Even though Ismajli was already fully vaccinated.

After his return home, Ismajli's condition continued to deteriorate. His wife made the right decision: she took her husband to the hospital, to the Donau-Isar-Klinikum in Deggendorf, writes the

Passauer Neue Presse (PNP)

. Ismajli received a diagnosis there: The delta variant of the coronavirus * was detected in the 50-year-old. He had caught pneumonia. It was a shock for the man from Landau: The 50-year-old had only received a vaccination a few weeks earlier. Ismajli was given the vaccine by Johnson & Johnson * - according to experts, a single vaccine dose is sufficient for this active ingredient from Great Britain to obtain full vaccination protection.

Intensive care patient despite vaccination: The cases are very rare - but infection with corona is possible

It is possible to contract the virus despite having a vaccination.

The risk of illness is significantly minimized by the vaccination protection.

The effects of the disease are also lessened.

As reported by the Robert Koch Institute, Ismajli is one of the 0.03 percent of the more than 50 million people vaccinated in Germany who were infected with the virus by September 1.

The Munich Clinic had advertised the vaccination a few days ago, because significantly more corona patients were treated in the intensive care unit than in the previous year.

In Munich only unvaccinated people are affected.

To everyone who does not want to - or cannot - be vaccinated against # SARSCoV2: please protect yourself!

At the Munich Clinic we are currently experiencing 5 times more hospitalization and treating 5 times more intensive care patients than 1 year ago, incidentally with a similar 7-day incidence.

Corona: The Bavarian suffers from the consequences of the disease - despite his vaccination

Such a severe course of illness as Ismajli experienced is even rarer: he was in the intensive care unit of the clinic for a week.

Sometimes he had to be ventilated with oxygen.

"I would not have thought that it would hit me so badly without any previous illnesses," Ismajli told the

PNP.

After seven days in the intensive care unit, the Landau was allowed to return home.

He started his quarantine at home there.

His condition has improved, he says himself. Nevertheless, he still has difficulty breathing and a persistent cough.

If he speaks for a long time, he needs regular breaks to relax.

“I feel like after a cross-country skiing,” he says.

Corona in Germany: The vaccination campaign has stagnated for weeks

Ismajli appeals to his fellow men.

One should not rely solely on the vaccination to protect.

In everyday life, people who enjoy full vaccination protection should also be careful and adhere to the well-known AHA rules.

However, he puts it into perspective: "I don't know how I would have fared without the vaccination."

The vaccination campaign in Germany has been stagnating for a few weeks, the RKI fears a “brilliant” fourth wave.

The reason for the slow progress is fears that the vaccination will cause side effects or long-term effects.

However, experts give the all-clear: there are generally no known long-term effects of vaccines.
