Images of wild or domestic animals captured by Nathalie Bazylak in a veterinary clinic are the subject of a unique exhibition

Hypnotic looks, yellow, black or light green.

Those of a red kite, a sphynx cat, with its large black marbles, or a stork saved from electrocution.

But also the narrowed and pensive eyes of Dalila, the young kitten.

In the photos, the expressions follow each other but are not alike.

All these little animals have in common that they have passed into the hands of Nathalie Bazylak.

Assistant in a veterinary clinic in Reims (Marne), her love of animals and photography has enabled her to set up an exhibition dedicated to her patients for a day or a week.

“I just do this with my cell phone.

I shoot them, I don't ask them to pose.

They hurt the poor and need to be taken care of.

".

About twenty portraits, among the 4000 she owns, were selected for this exhibition entitled “Animal!

»And inaugurated this Friday, September 17 at the Maison du Chemin Vert in Reims.

Others will leave next November for the International Animal Photo Festival in Montier-en-Der, in Haute-Marne.

“It's a nice surprise, rejoices Nathalie.

I am not in the competition but I am a guest of the festival.

And, in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Center, I will participate in conferences to explain how we treat all these injured animals ”.

Nothing predestined this 50-year-old to find herself in the spotlight of this festival, considered the Mecca of animal photography.

Other doors have also opened thanks to its producer, singer Catherine Ringer.

Several Parisian and South-West galleries should present his work next spring.

"Nathalie's work touches me"

Touched by his pictures, the singer of Rita Mitsouko took him under her wing. “I just took the bandwagon because his photos were already very popular. I just brought in the funding to offer the turnkey exhibition to galleries. She has an acuity, a relationship with animals that I like. When you look at her photos you really feel the relationship she has with them. And in each of her shots, we appreciate her sense of framing and beauty… She really has a gift and her work touches me particularly, ”explains Catherine Ringer.

By discovering his photos, the artist immediately offered to become his producer.

“Catherine said to me:

It's now or never

.

And she is very involved, she chooses the order of the prints, writes the labels and takes the time to come to Reims to prepare everything, ”says Nathalie Bazylak.

And it is precisely photography that brought the two women together in the 1990s. Nathalie was then the assistant to the rock photographer, Youri Lenquette.

The same sensitivity for the environment

“He had made all of the Rita Mitsouko record covers. Yuri also used to go on tour with them to photograph them on stage. And that's when a bond was born between us. ". The two women also share the same sensitivity for the environment. Catherine Ringer recently traded in her singer's hat for that of an activist. In 2018, she occupied the Corniche des forts construction site in Romainville, near Paris, to prevent the felling of thousands of trees. “I am one of those people,” she says, “who is sensitive to the joy of a plant or an animal. I had a mother who taught me a lot about it when I was little ”. A sensitivity that can be found in the exhibition she is currently producing in Reims.
