Former Puerto Rican boxer Juan Manuel López is imprisoned for violating bail conditions after the complaint of gender violence.

Former world boxing champion Juan Manuel López Rivera was admitted during the night of this Wednesday to the Bayamón Correctional Complex, in Puerto Rico, after being arrested by agents of the Pretrial Services Program (PSAJ) for violate the conditions of your deferred bail.

A little over a week ago, López Rivera had been denounced for gender violence by his ex-partner Andrea Ojeda Cruz.

The former boxer had turned himself in on Tuesday, September 7, at the Caguas Police Headquarters after a district attorney of that city presented against him seven charges of physical and psychological abuse, threats and damage to property, and a judge will order his arrest.

A day later, López was released after posting a US $ 175,000 bond and released under electronic supervision and restrictions on leaving his home under the surveillance program of the Office for Pretrial Services.

The Department of Correction and Rehabilitation of Puerto Rico confirmed López Rivera's imprisonment and reported that he will be in prison until September 21, when the preliminary hearing of the cases in the complaint is scheduled.

CNN tried to contact Jaime Barceló Sosa, the former boxer's lawyer, to get a reaction, but so far it has not been possible.

Earlier this Wednesday, the Caguas Prosecutor's Office had presented a motion to ask the court to revoke the provisional release of López Rivera for violating the conditions of the bond imposed by publicly addressing his ex-partner in an interview on a television program in Puerto Rico.

"After evaluating the interview that the accused gave to a television program, in effect he violated the conditions of the deferred bail. One of the conditions is that he cannot approach or have communication in any way with the survivor. By speaking to her directly she violated this condition, "said Janet Rodríguez Robles, director of the PSAJ.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice spoke about the situation.

"We understand that the demonstrations carried out constitute a clear violation of the bail and protection order provisions. This type of case is attended taking into account the victims, so that we ensure their well-being and cooperation in the process. to allow no one to use subterfuge to manipulate and evade compliance with the law, "said the Secretary of Justice, Domingo Emanuelli Hernández, who gave the instructions to the prosecution in a press release.
