The end of the free corona tests for everyone is approaching.

There is an innovation for children, but it can be expensive for unvaccinated adults.

Berlin - From October, corona tests will no longer be available free of charge.

However, there are exceptions for groups of people who cannot be vaccinated.

Pregnant women and children, among others, continue to receive federal funding for the tests.

These exceptions should be valid longer than initially planned.

According to plans by the Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU), children from twelve to 17 years of age and pregnant women should still be able to get free Corona * rapid tests "by the end of the year".

"The vaccination recommendation came only recently for both groups," said the 41-year-old politician in an interview with Die Welt.

You would therefore have the chance to get vaccinated during these weeks.

This is to be regulated in a new test regulation that implements a federal-state resolution.

Free corona tests for children extended

A first draft for the new ordinance initially stipulated that tests for children aged twelve to 17 should be free until November 30th. So far, there has been no deadline for the free corona tests for pregnant women, as the Standing Vaccination Commission initially did not issue a vaccination recommendation. Almost a week ago, however, the Stiko changed its attitude *.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Ministers had decided that the federally financed offer for free Corona citizen tests for everyone should end.

"From October 11th, citizens' tests will be charged for everyone who could be vaccinated," said Spahn.

A vaccination is a free personal decision, but it is also about mutual protection.

"If you don't notice it and don't get vaccinated, you have to pay for the tests yourself."

From October, corona tests will only be free for a few people

From October 11th, corona tests are only free for a few groups:

  • Pregnant women

  • Children from twelve to 17 years

  • People who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons

  • People who have corona symptoms

  • People who visit facilities with numerous high-risk patients (e.g. old people's homes)

For all other people, it can get expensive after the free corona tests have ended, especially if they have to be carried out over and over again.

The health insurance companies in Germany currently reimburse the PCR test with around 45 euros.

The federal government pays between ten and 20 euros for a corona rapid test.

It can be assumed that prices will rise from October 11th - some test centers will close, the supply will be smaller.
