Éric Dupond-Moretti is still so determined. After a quick one-to-one breakfast with the president of the Modem and mayor of Pau, François Bayrou, head to the courthouse. The Keeper of the Seals comes there to promote community service to local elected officials. The opportunity to defend his vision of justice (and to respond to the attacks of these detractors) while a prison will be built in the coming years. "Pau is the right place to remind people of the usefulness of prison and to remind people of the usefulness of reintegration", explains the minister during a press briefing. And attack: “When we talk about justice, we do it too often with Manichaeism and without nuance. The electoral deadlines mean that we are going to engage in a kind of endless shallot race ”.

This trip to Pau is also an opportunity for the Minister of Justice to attend the installation hearing of the new heads of the city's Court of Appeal.

"A great republican moment" he greets, because it is traditionally in the capital that the Keeper of the Seals attends this kind of ceremony.

"" I am particularly attached to the territories, "he argues.

"He learned a lot politically"

Last June, Eric Dupond-Moretti suffered a real snub during the regional elections. The LREM list in Hauts-de-France, of which he was the leader for Pas-de-Calais, had been eliminated in the first round. “It was his first campaign and as a minister, he was very exposed,” says one of his relatives. He learned a lot politically. And in the coming months, the minister intends to defend his record and return to the forefront of the political scene. In a few weeks will begin in particular the States General of justice, announced in June by Emmanuel Macron, while the judicial institution was strongly criticized by elected politicians and police unions. This major consultation which will bring together legal professionals, law enforcement and citizens, will start in October and stretch until the end of the year.

One way to take stock of the situation of the judicial institution in France. "I have a fierce determination to change everything that needs to be changed," Eric Dupond-Moretti tells us on the sidelines of his trip to Pau. Still, at 7 months of the presidential election, some political opponents are already denouncing a political maneuver. "There is not a time beyond which it is forbidden to do things", retorts the Minister of Justice, who puts forward an approach that will be transpartisan.

But with the presidential election looming, time may be running out for the conclusions of the Estates General to be translated into law.

"The proposals which will come out oblige us because they will emanate in particular from our compatriots", assures the minister.

The objective is clear: to show that the tenant of Place Vendôme and his teams will be at work until the end.

After the Beauvau of security, the States General of justice ... A way for Emmanuel Macron to fully invest the fields of the regal, on which he is regularly attacked by his political opponents.
