Beaune: the capital of Burgundy wines

Territory of great white wines, with Corton-Charlemagne, Montrachet or Meursault, the Côte de Beaune is also famous for its reds; Pommard and Volnay. Located on the route of the Grands Crus, which connects Dijon to Santenay, Beaune is the undisputed capital of the Burgundy vineyards. Emblematic monument of the city, its Hôtel-Dieu with roofs covered with glazed tiles, a medieval hospital foundation with Gothic architecture, organizes a large charity sale every year: the sale of wines from the hospices de Beaune creates the event the third weekend of November, tastings and activities are then offered throughout the city and in the cellars. Before setting out to explore the villages and their appellations, you should stop at the Maison des Climats. An interactive model,representing the vineyards of the Grands Crus route, presents the 1,247 climats, or plots of vines, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.

In the direction of Dijon, on the Côte de Nuits, we cross the village with the well-known name of Vosne-Romanée, which houses the Rion estate, whose cellar of old vintages is open to visitors under the supervision of a member of the family.

It is home to prestigious appellations: Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos-Vougeot Grand cru… which you can ask to taste as part of the different formulas offered.
