Despite the difficult conditions, the one-world group at the Franz-Marc-Gymnasium successfully held a charity run again this year.

Markt Schwaben

- Sustainability and ecology are two terms that were added to the mission statement at Markt Schwabener Franz-Marc-Gymnasium a good six months ago. Directly related to this is an initiative that has been around at the school for around 25 years: The One World Group, which once started as a third world group in the form of a working group and continues to have numerous students motivated to get involved socially in this sector.

Brigitta Mähringer was there from the very beginning.

As a teacher, she can still remember the beginnings quite well.

The trigger was, so to speak, a deceased teacher colleague who privately adopted two children from Africa, she reports.

Also that afterwards a new project was supported almost every year.

That there was always support from outside.

One world group: Schoolchildren collect up to 10,000 euros in donations every year

Special theme evenings once a year were an important mainstay. They are still there. Proceeds from these events, for example, have already gone to the “Sterntaler für Afrika” campaign, an association headed by former FMG student Jürgen Nagler. The Nepalhilfe Starnberg, the association Yebo Zululand Initiatives or Wajibu Wetu - Hand in Hand for Kenya were and are further addressees of the aid. Brigitta Mähringer continues to support the campaigns; and with her colleagues Brigitta Federschmidt and Christoph Altmann, among others.

"In addition to these major projects, there were and still are a number of smaller projects every year, such as the so-called Christmas in a shoe box or the sale of chocolate bars to use the proceeds to create school boards for children in Ghana who are taught by a former student of the FMG, to finance “, it says in addition on the homepage of the grammar school.

In any case, the students of the One World Group are now able to collect between 8,000 and 10,000 euros a year with their actions in order to directly support relief efforts.

Even a car has already been procured and handed over in this way.

One world group: Despite difficult conditions, the run brings in over 8,000 euros

The annual charity run also makes a very important contribution to this.

In 2020 it took place as an online event due to the Corona restrictions.

Schoolchildren mostly filmed themselves at home while doing sports.

The film excerpts were then edited and cut together and presented to the sponsors.

Nevertheless, they did not spoil themselves, say Hanna Wendler, Chiara Volkland and Jana Hellinger, all participants in the current working group as well as from Q 11.

Under difficult conditions there was also this year, before the summer vacation, such a charity running event, in which only a part of the student body (the lower grades) was allowed to participate.

Nevertheless, over 8,000 euros were raised again.

One world group: Above all, the topic of climate change is coming more and more into focus

Headmaster Peter Popp thinks the ongoing commitment to the FMG is great.

The subject of climate change, he said, is of course currently in full focus.

If you approach the problem in a more far-sighted way, he is ultimately about a responsibility for the whole world.

About mindfulness.

It is about advocating education all over the world and creating fair working conditions.

“Only when we see all aspects in context can we make a difference to save the world and create sustainability”.

The young people in the One World Group made a not insignificant contribution to this.
