Peiting - "This is new territory for us." Marcus Graf, director of the Pfaffenwinkel music school in Schongau, took this sentence into his mouth.

He was describing the special situation that with Peiting, "an entire community" was commissioned to take over music lessons for children and young people from the market in the future.

As reported, at the end of July the municipal councils approved the “conclusion of a purpose agreement” with 17: 7 votes. With this, Peiting joins the Pfaffenwinkel music school, which is based in Schongau. The grant to the “Musik in Peiting” association, in which the freelance music teachers are organized, will be paid out for the last time this year (29,000 euros). On the other hand, 25,000 from the market town's cash register are transferred to the Pfaffenwinkel music school. From 2022 it will be 50,000 euros a year. This amount is initially granted for a period of five years.

Alexander Schnackenberg, chairman of the “Music in Peiting” association, said on Wednesday at the request of the district messenger that he had envisaged a longer transition phase.

The details were never fully discussed.

As an example, he cited the question of how to proceed with young people who have been teaching in Peiting for five years and would like to add another year or two after 2022 without changing teachers.

Schnackenberg announced that an extraordinary general meeting would be called in autumn.

There he will propose the dissolution of the friends' association.

It takes three quarters of all votes for that.

A notice of termination on the part of the parents, whose children still have music lessons with the Peitinger music teachers, is not necessary.

Schnackenberg confirmed that the previous coordinator, Andreas Fuchs, resigned from this task at the end of August. Like Wilhelm Binder and Daniela Schnackenberg, Fuchs is one of the dozen music teachers who do not go to the Pfaffenwinkel music school in Schongau, but continue to give freelance lessons for almost 150 boys and girls in Peiting. Three teachers who have previously worked both at the Pfaffenwinkel music school and also as a freelancer in Peiting would take their students with them to Schongau.

Marcus Graf described in the Schloßberghalle in front of the municipal councilors that the reactions would range from enthusiasm to rejection if he spoke in person or on the phone with the music teachers who had previously worked in Peiting about a job at the Pfaffenwinkel music school. You have to understand when a teacher has been self-employed for about 35 years, is about to retire and the question is whether he still wants to do the same to teach within the music school as a salaried specialist. Graf presented the offer of the Pfaffenwinkel music school, where more than 700 children and young people are trained on the instrument, in ensembles or in singing, in a quick run.

It ranges from mini music, early education, basic musical training and percussion classes through numerous instrumental and vocal subjects to the ensembles, which are free of charge. In addition, subjects such as theory and ear training or support classes for very good young musicians should be mentioned in order to prepare them for an additum for the Abitur or for studying music. There are collaborations with 14 kindergartens, six schools and eleven music bands. They also want to intensify the cooperation with the Peiting miners' band in the future.

The suggestion of the councilor Claudia Steindorf (SPD) to offer a parents' evening was positively received by Graf - in addition to an open day. Thomas Elste (Greens) asked about discounts for children from socially disadvantaged households. Graf referred to the discounts in wind classes and the free ensembles for everyone who learns an instrument.

Norbert Merk (CSU) said he did not want to criticize the previous system. But such a music school is much more than the coordination of individual teachers. Herbert Salzmann (SPD) summed up Graf's portrayal: "That opened up a lot for me". For him, the information was confirmation that Peiting's decision to cooperate with the music school was correct. On the other hand, Tobias Eding (SPD), table neighbor of Salzmann and critic of the new path, had kept his opinion (this time) to himself.
