The logic of the police: If it turns out in a year that the one-way street in the old town does not work and will be abolished again, the one-way street in Brucker Straße to the district office would also be pointless: the cars would drive en masse on Burgfriedenstraße to Karlsberg in the morning rush hour .
But the warnings from the CSU and the police faded away, the decision, which should primarily serve to improve bicycle traffic, stood - until now, in July, a group of 32 residents from Weiherweg and Brucker Strasse addressed the "Dear Lord Mayor Hartmann" turned.
Their message was: The traffic in Brucker Strasse, Burgfriedenstrasse and Weiherweg will increase due to the new one-way regulation, it will be louder in the neighborhood and particulate matter will increase.
The city and the city council would also make incorrect assumptions: “You are sure to think that the traffic will be somewhat more evened out due to the one-way street regulation in Brucker Straße.
The cars that are already parked on the street will not vanish into thin air as a result. "
Unlike the residents of the old town, who had been asked for their opinion regarding a one-way street regulation in advance of the city council resolution, the residents around Brucker Strasse were not asked. "We therefore only feel like second-class citizens," said the letter to the OB. In general, they asked themselves whether the city councilors “who voted for the one-way rule and who do not live in Brucker Strasse or Weiherweg” were even aware of “what they had done to us with this decision? Probably not!"
On Wednesday, Mayor Hartmann, when he presented the topic to the Environment and Transport Committee, agreed with the letter writers: “You can see it that way. Sure, there can be shifts (of traffic). ”However, he maintains that it was not a mistake to limit the one-way rule in the old town and not on Brucker Strasse:“ That is as bouncing as it is. ”The rule on Brucker Strasse, if necessary, you can end at any time without a prior time limit. "But if it's psychologically better to sell, then we'll do it in God's name."
Hartmann's party colleague Dennis Behrendt (SPD) also changed his mind: Regardless of the question of how useful a time limit for a one-way street is, “we have to take the citizens' fears and needs seriously”. Peter Gampenrieder (ÜB) considered the old decision to be a "birth defect" anyway. By coupling both one-way streets and starting a parallel trial run, “we can look at it as a package in one year. And if the package carries, it stays that way. If not, we have to change the package ”.
In the end, this is how the majority of the City Council Committee saw it. Unlike the one-way street regulation in the old town, which, as reported, will apply from October 1st, the introduction of the one-way street to the district office will only take place in a few weeks. According to the building authority, the trial phase should end at the same time in both areas.
