Algerian state television announced the death of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the age of 84.
Bouteflika was the seventh president of the country since Algeria's independence in 1962, and took over the presidency of Algeria in 1999.
Bouteflika won a second term in April 2004 and was re-elected in April 2009 for a third term and then won a fourth term in April 2014.
On April 2, 2019, Bouteflika officially announced the end of his presidential term in the country.
