The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned of severe consequences for refugees and forcibly displaced persons due to the lack of access to Corona vaccines, in addition to other damages resulting from their loss of livelihoods with the economic slowdown and the closure of many businesses and workplaces.

Today, the UNHCR chief of public health said that Burton today “tops the list of the 10 most underfunded cases this year, at a time when the organization has received only a third of the budgeted needs of $ 924 million, leaving a significant gap in UNHCR’s ability to Protecting the most vulnerable groups from the repercussions of the epidemic.”

Burton added: "The significant response so far to refugee-hosting countries in launching the vaccine is encouraging, but despite that, there are still many barriers to obtaining the vaccine," stressing UNHCR's readiness to support countries to overcome some of these barriers.

She pointed out that "the failure to adequately fund the response deepens their plight, especially after they bear the full impact of the economic repercussions of the epidemic and were often unable to access the aid decided by governments or subsidies to compensate for that impact."
