This morning, the voting process for the elections for the eighth legislative round of the Russian State Duma began throughout the country and its diplomatic and consular representations in 144 countries in the world, which will continue until next Sunday evening.

The number of Russian citizens who are eligible to vote is 110 million, voting in 96,000 centers in the elections in which 14 parties are competing for the 450 seats in the Russian State Duma.

Elections in Russia are held under the mixed system, that is, 225 deputies are elected according to party lists and 225 according to individual nominations in single-seat constituencies.

The conduct of the elections is supervised by 413 thousand observers from Russia from various participating parties and 250 international observers representing 55 countries in the world, including a member of the People’s Assembly, head of the Syrian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Committee on behalf of Sudan, in addition to observers from international organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. On the eve of the elections, President Vladimir Putin called on the citizens of Russia to participate effectively, stressing that “the supreme meaning of the elections lies in expressing the will of the people and achieving the constitutional entitlement of citizens in determining the paths of the country’s development.”

Putin said: "The contemporary world is complex and rapidly changing, which creates new challenges, but it gives us wide possibilities. What is needed is a strong parliament that works to achieve the interests of Russia and its people and serve its citizens."

And launched earlier the voting process in the Duma elections in the Far Eastern regions of Russia.
