Industrial security is defined as a set of precautionary measures aimed at providing occupational protection and safety for workers in industrial facilities and thus maintaining the continuity of their production and is achieved by providing safe work environments free of motives for accidents and injuries.

In order to protect the lives of workers in its institutions, the Ministry of Electricity is working to promote this concept among its workers in their workshops and workplaces, through the implementation of a number of workshops, seminars and introductory lectures to inform them of the precautionary measures taken to provide them with protection and safety.

In this context, the head of the Protection Department at the Operations Directorate at the Ministry of Electricity, Muhammad Al-Salti, confirmed to SANA’s delegate that the ministry has always circulated to its affiliated institutions and directorates with the necessity of obligating all workers in workshops and stations to follow occupational safety procedures to prevent accidents from electrocution and falling off poles and towers, in addition to other diseases that You may infect them while working, “such as clots.”

He pointed out that it is necessary to secure a safe work area for workers, who in turn must adhere to several procedures before starting their work, including checking the presence of tension, using appropriate equipment, wearing industrial security uniforms, and obtaining work permits to carry out work on medium and high tension networks within the field of work of the stations, pointing out that most of the accidents What happened with the electrical sector workers is a result of their weak culture of industrial security and the mechanism of dealing with the procedures of dismissal, seizure, and handing over the work site.

In turn, the Director of the General Organization for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, Engineer Fawaz Al-Zaher, stated that the ministry will form an integrated work team from industrial security and operating departments to train all workers in all electricity companies on how to use electrical equipment and work mechanism in places where frequent breakdowns occur in order to preserve their lives.

Shadi Suleiman, Director of Legal and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry, called for taking deterrent measures against those responsible for workers in the event of failure to follow up on their workers' commitment to occupational safety procedures.

Muhammad Al-Jumah, head of the “Adra 1” station, stressed the need to spread the culture of post-stunning, which includes taking appropriate health measures to rescue and aid the injured, calling for the presence of a health official in each station to follow up on the workers’ conditions.

Muhammad Shamaa, head of the Adra transfer station, said: “We are dealing with tensions of all sizes, and our work is very stressful, both technically and muscularly, and therefore it is necessary to implement field training for workers to apply industrial security procedures correctly, with the presence of an industrial security supervisor everywhere whose task is to train workshop workers and tighten procedures.” to protect them.”

Zain al-Abidin al-Khatib, head of the 66/230 transfer station in Damascus, confirmed that due to the increase in cases of shock, it became necessary to strict implementation of industrial security measures to preserve the safety of electrical workers, calling for the presence of an industrial security official in each workshop. protection.

Hussain Mudhahi, worker at the high-tension lines workshops in Damascus, and Ali Masoud, a technician from the Coordination Directorate, stressed the importance of supporting the ministry with cadres, especially with their decreasing numbers, pointing out the need to take protection and safety measures before and during work.

Hana Al-Kinani, head of the Professional Confederation of Electricity, Communications and Metallurgical Industries Unions, explained the importance of taking protection measures for workers in the workshops due to their shortage and following up on the quality of the tools used, pointing to the union's readiness to cooperate with union offices to implement awareness and education sessions on the importance of industrial security for the sake of workers' safety.

A number of workers stressed the need to provide the necessary protection for all workshop personnel, to provide them with personal protective equipment and safety, to ensure the presence of a first aid box at the work site, and to enhance the concept of occupational safety and industrial security by conducting mock exercises for them and publishing periodic posters explaining everything related to industrial security and its requirements and how to deal. with him.
