It was tedious negotiations until the plans finally became concrete in 2018.
“We had to wait eleven years for this day,” summed up Mayor Martin Pape in his inauguration speech.
Only a change in personnel at the head of the State Building Authority brought about the decisive breakthrough - and made the location right next to the state road bridge possible.
Security concerns for a long time
The first application for the construction of a bicycle bridge was made in 2010 by two citizens of Oderdingen. But safety concerns had existed for a long time before that. And Ostler always wanted to build a wooden bridge - all he had to do was convince the state building authority.
Due to the maintenance costs, the authorities are actually rather reluctant to use “wood” as a building material - but Ostler had the solution: “I said, 'We'll build a roof over it and house it, then we'll have wood protection and the bridge will lift for a few hundred years '. “Ostler praised the interaction between regional specialist offices and entrepreneurs.
