A building with some government offices in the city and a bank branch was defined as dangerous • Office owner: "I did not have time to take out my equipment" • Resident alert: "The old school nearby is full of cracks"

After the collapse of the building in Holon:

The Eilat municipality yesterday (Friday) banned people from entering a building called the "office complex", where some of the city's government offices and the Bank Hapoalim branch in the city are located, after an engineer determined that the place was dangerous to the public.

Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri issued a letter stating that according to an engineer's report this week, the building on Hativat Hanegev-Sderot HaTamarim Street called "Kiryat Hamashradim" is dangerous and that the ceiling of the Antiquities Institute in the building could collapse at any moment without support.

The Bank Hapoalim branch located in the building decided not to wait for developments, and a few hours after the decision was made, the entrance to the bank branch was fenced off to prevent access to the place.

At the same time, the bank's employees began to look for additional solutions for customers.

"Every year promises - and nothing happened"

Guy Shishu, a resident of Eilat, sees the municipality's move as good news for residents: "This phenomenon will only get better with the tenants, no matter which building. Planning authorities will work faster and urban renewal will only grow. From these tragedies "It's time to take it down, an ugly building in the middle of our beautiful city."

Yaniv Tal, a private investigator who rents an office in the building, told Israel Today: "I was abroad when the building was declared dangerous.

Friends at a nearby office called to update me.

Give them half an hour to vacate the office and then put up fences and prevent entry.

I came back and the building was blocked so I could not even take out my equipment.

It is clear to me that this is a very old building and at the bottom they saw the decay in the concrete, it is just not clear to me why they have now determined that it is dangerous. "

Eilat resident Sharon Cohen, whose children attend Goldwater High School near the office building that was declared dangerous, claims that the school that was built more than 60 years ago is full of cracks.

"Let them check the school," she exclaimed.

"The building is in poor condition. In the past, the parents' leadership in Eilat shouted and we brought in experts. Every year they promise, and still nothing has happened."

It should be noted that the city of Eilat and the entire region are sitting on the Syrian-African rift, the area prone to earthquakes.
