The Algerian presidency announced today that the flags will fly at half-mast for three days of mourning for former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
A statement issued by the presidency stated: "The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, decided, following the death of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to lower the flags at half-mast for a period of three days, starting today, over the entire national territory."
Yesterday, Algerian state television announced the death of Bouteflika at the age of 84.
Bouteflika was the seventh president of the country since Algeria's independence in 1962, and took over the presidency of Algeria in 1999.
On April 2, 2019, Bouteflika officially announced the end of his presidential term.
