Munich / Berlin - "73% of those who are vaccinated are bothered by the fact that others are not vaccinated." This is what the so-called COVID-19 Snapshot Monitoring (Cosmo) says about the coronavirus pandemic in Germany.
This survey by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the University of Erfurt and the Federal Center for Health Education examines why many people in Germany do not get vaccinated against Corona.

So there are still many millions of people between the North Sea and the Bavarian Alps, with the exception of pregnant women and children who want to be vaccinated, who refused to be convinced of a vaccination - or who categorically reject it.
The following reasons were now identified in the COVID-19 Snapshot Monitoring survey:

Lack of trust:
When it comes to the safety of corona vaccinations, 40 percent of the unvaccinated people surveyed expressed concerns.
Others are: An allegedly insufficient research situation, the known comparatively fast approval and possible long-term consequences.
In addition, a general fear of side effects plays a role.
Pregnancy
: According to the report, some unvaccinated people have not yet received a vaccination recommendation for pregnant women - presumably also pregnant women themselves. In the meantime, the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) has issued this vaccination recommendation. "Young women are an important target group for good education," says the study report. Uncertainties about vaccination, fertility and the desire to have children should be clarified and "women who want to have children the importance of vaccination" should be shown.
“Free riding”:
This term is used in the survey to summarize the behavior of people who have not been vaccinated against corona when they “tend to rely on others”.
According to Cosmo figures from September 7th, 75 percent of those surveyed considered a corona vaccination unnecessary because many others have already been vaccinated.
In addition, personal and social benefits would be weighed against each other.
Low risk perception:
"Paradoxically, unvaccinated people have a lower risk perception than vaccinated people," the report from early September also states.
Little control of vaccination cards (digital and analog):
This includes that, according to the study, “half of the respondents have (almost) never been asked for proof of vaccination”.
"Only about 10% state that they very often have to present a vaccination certificate", it continues - including the conclusion: "Those who were asked more often for proof of vaccination among the unvaccinated, are somewhat more willing to vaccinate."
Dissatisfaction with the government:
"For 18% of unvaccinated people with a low willingness to vaccinate, not vaccinating is a way of expressing dissatisfaction with the government," explains the Cosmo report.
