With the participation of a number of social and civil organizations and events, a voluntary work day was held today on the southern corniche in Lattakia, in conjunction with the International Cleaning Day, corresponding to September 18 of each year.
The event, which was called by the Young International Chamber of Latakia, and came with the participation of the workshops of the Latakia City Council and a group of associations, which included street sweeping, dust removal, weed cutting, tree trimming, in addition to general maintenance work in the southern Corniche.
The head of Lattakia City Council, Engineer Hussein Zingerli, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign aims to enhance community participation in cleaning campaigns due to their important role in spreading awareness and supporting the efforts of cleaners to improve the environmental reality in general.
For his part, the Director of Hygiene in the City Council, Ammar Qusiri, indicated that the directorate provided all the necessary equipment and mechanisms for the campaign, with the participation of its workers, to give the campaign its effect, especially since the area is considered one of the most important tourist destinations in the city, indicating that the campaign included integrated cleaning works such as sweeping streets, mowing weeds and painting. The mechanisms of the Directorate of Services and Maintenance in the City Council also participated in the maintenance work of rain vents and the pruning of palm trees in the middle of the road with the removal of waste, according to its director, Eng. Thaer Jaafar, who indicated that the directorate, in addition to the maintenance work that it carried out today, identified sites that need intervention, which will be addressed and maintained.
