2021-09-18T14:10:47.245Z

A major power plant in the country has been shut down as a result of a drop in gas pressure • According to the Assad regime, explosives planted by the rebels caused damage to the fuel line

Electricity was cut off last night (Friday) in large areas of Syria after a central power plant was shut down as a result of a drop in gas pressure.

The Assad regime announced that the power outage was due to a terrorist attack on a central gas pipeline.

The Minister of Energy in the Assad regime, the engineer Rasan a-Zamel, said that electricity was gradually returning to all the districts after the shutdown of the power plant.

The minister told the government news agency "Sana" that after completing an investigation, it became clear that this was a terrorist attack in which explosives were used.

The blasts hit a pipeline that supplied gas to two stations, Deir Ali and Tashrin.

In addition, two power towers located between the stations were also damaged.

All this led to the extensive power outage.

According to the Ministry of Electricity, the shutdown led to the shutdown of several other stations and network outages.

The power plant in Deir Ali will not return to operation in the meantime as a result of the sabotage and its role will be filled by other stations until the damage to the attack in the gas pipeline is repaired.

It is a central power plant that supplies more than 50% of the country's electricity consumption and is located south of the capital Damascus.

In 2011, a revolt broke out in Syria that developed into a bloody civil war.

Although at times it seemed to dictator Bashar Assad that a fate similar to that of other dictators in the "Arab Spring" awaited him, his regime survived largely thanks to unprecedented assistance from Russia.

As a result, the regime took over most of the areas in the divided country, with the rebels concentrated mainly in the Idlib area in the northeast.

However, various cells and pockets of opposition of the opposition still remain, much of which is made up of Islamist groups.
