On the occasion of the International Cleaning Day, which falls today, the Damascus Governorate, in cooperation with the Junior Chamber International, the local community, and a number of associations, carried out a campaign of cleaning, weeding and tree pruning in several axes in the city.

The campaign, in which the directorates of hygiene, parks and the environment, volunteers from the family planning associations, Friends of the Sobky, the Syrian Environment, the Union of Youth of the Revolution and the volunteer age team, included the axes of the Al-Baiterah roundabout, reaching the March 8 complex, passing through the Sheikh Raslan area, Al-Sobki Park, Souki Al-Salhiya, Al-Hamra, and a number of areas such as Al-Shaalan, Al-Hamra and Al-Rawda.

A number of volunteers confirmed to SANA delegate that their participation in the campaign stems from the importance of maintaining public cleanliness and its positive repercussions on the city’s aesthetic.

Volunteer Aya Dartli from the Damascus branch of the Revolutionary Youth Union saw that participation is a duty for everyone to preserve the cleanliness, beauty and elegance of the city, expressing her hope to activate volunteer work and increase the participation of young people for their important role in building the country, while volunteer Sabah Malas from the Sobky Friends Association emphasized the importance of spreading the culture of volunteerism and hygiene. and preserving the environment.

Member of the Executive Office in the governorate, Faisal Sorour, stressed the importance of the cooperation of the local community and NGOs in the hygiene campaigns implemented by the governorate, which must continue on a permanent basis, and help the service cadres in the governorate, especially the cleaners, who perform their duties around the clock daily, calling for the preservation of public property and the cleanliness of neighborhoods, streets and public parks. Raising awareness of hygiene, spreading this culture, and adherence to throwing waste at the specified times and placing it in airtight bags in the designated containers.

The assistant director of parks in the governorate, Engineer Wissam Salloum, pointed out the role of the campaign in increasing the level of cleanliness in parks, calling on its visitors to maintain general cleanliness and throw dirt into garbage baskets and containers in all parks and alert everyone who throws dirt out of its place, which contributes to spreading awareness and reducing the burden on Workers who put great efforts into cleaning, pruning trees and shrubs and removing weeds.
