, 1966 World Cup champion and Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top scorer, died this Sunday at age 81, the London club reported.

"We are very saddened to learn of the death of the great Jimmy Greaves, not only the record scorer for Tottenham Hotspur, but the best spiker that this country has ever seen. Jimmy died at home in the early hours of this morning," said the British entity .

"He was a natural scorer, always in the right place at the right time to put the finishing touch on another well-crafted play, while also creating his own goals, as he did on numerous occasions. He had impeccable ball control, a great balance and such a performance in front of goal that he rarely missed an opportunity, "added the club.

Greaves had long had a difficult health picture after two heart attacks and a stroke that forced him to move around in a wheelchair and caused him speech difficulties.
