Hiam Saud and a number of women in Yahmour village, Tartous, find simple job opportunities for them that secure part of the family's expenses and contribute to spending their time with useful work, thanks to their participation in a rural project founded by a couple from the area.

Saud said in her interview with SANA that I work for an hourly wage in the field of food industries in a project for rural products, and it is an opportunity for me and many of the village’s women to work that is commensurate with our family situation and our abilities and skills as well. The project is close to our homes and we spend beautiful times together, as we are the people of one village.

The project that Saud talked about was held in a small independent room next to the house of the spouses Abla Zureik and Bassam Khaddam, where it was launched nearly twenty-five years ago, according to what its owner confirmed by Zuraiq, benefiting from her skills in cooking and making household supplies. Everything related to rural breakfast was developed at a later stage for the manufacture of makdous requirements of eggplant, ground peppers, tomato juice, sumac, honey, jams of all kinds and other materials that the housewife needs in terms of food supplies.

Different types of materials are manufactured in the small workshop according to Zureik, but each has its season. For example, the manufacture of Shanklish, Labneh, and Sourki is associated with the first months of the year, followed by thyme, sumac, jams, peppers and Makdous, and then pomegranate molasses, meaning that every two months of the year, specific types of supplies are produced.

Most of the raw materials needed to manufacture these products are available to the rural family, according to the husband, Bassam Khaddam, the founder of the project, noting that they are also working on a citrus project and a seasonal cultivation project of peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, olives and various types of fruit trees and vegetables.

The prices of the products produced by the family are linked to market prices and are very popular with the people of the region, who periodically reserve their needs for household supplies in each season, in addition to selling some of them in the local market.

The owner of the project recommends citizens and everyone who owns any small plot of land to cultivate and benefit from it, regardless of its area.
