The Al-Yar Theater Festival, in its second session, celebrated the works of playwright and director, Majd Younes Ahmed, by presenting a number of his works with the visions of young directors who are going through their first directing experience.

The festival, which is hosted by the stage of Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Latakia, comes within the framework of efforts to activate the theatrical movement and create an incentive for young people to highlight their talents by providing the opportunity for the first appearance of the works of directors and young actors in front of the audience, according to the director of the festival, actor and theater director Nidal Adeera.

Udeira explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the festival aims to supplement the theatrical movement with a project of directors by preparing them and offering them the opportunity to produce works and present them to the public, in addition to presenting works by Syrian playwrights who have their mark and presence on the scene.

According to Adeira, the festival constitutes an opportunity for young people wishing to enter the world of acting and directing to gain experience by building a theatrical performance for the first time, indicating that the festival, which selects a writer to present his works in each session, will select works by the writer and theater director, Dr. Muhammad Basal, in its next session.

The playwright and director Majd Younis Ahmed said that the festival, although still in the process of testing, presents a very important idea in terms of choosing the works of a playwright and presenting them by new directors who are going through their first experience, which allows new readings of the works from a young point of view that may lack some experience, but it remains a point Positive, worthy of support, and we hope that it will continue.

Ahmed pointed out the importance of the festival’s focus on Syrian writers, which confirms that there is no crisis of playwrights in Syria, but rather the absence of these writers, many of whom have achieved a great presence on the Arab arena in terms of presenting texts capable of mimicking local crises and being closer to the reality of our societies.

Bassam Saeed, director of the “Tashaweesh” show, which opened the festival, considered that this initiative presents the experiences of young people who have talent and passion for theater and need to support their first steps in acting and directing to form tributaries that activate the theatrical movement in Lattakia.

The festival, which will continue until next Monday, chose to present three theatrical performances written by Majd Younis Ahmed, a confusion directed by Bassam Saeed, and Heck and No Heck, directed by Ahmed Mashael, Hun and Hanik, directed by Aws Ghadeer, in addition to the opening show, which was directed by Adeira.

In its first session last year, the festival celebrated the works of the critic and playwright Joan Jean. As for the Al-Yasar theater group, which was established in 2000, it trains and rehabilitates those wishing to enter the field of acting and has extensive participation in theater festivals in the governorates, and it has a lot of diverse performances for adults and children.
