Israel's ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, Gilad Ardan, responded to a proposal to amend the law of the Oxio-Cortez Congress, which proposed that "the United States not sell weapons to the State of Israel due to the bombing of Palestinian civilians and media centers," .
It also called for an end to arms sales to Colombia following the government's violent treatment of protesters and Saudi Arabia following the assassination of journalist Jamal Hashukaji in 2018.
This is not the first time the radical left has attacked arms deals between the two countries when only last May Cortez, along with six other members of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, including Rashida Talib and Ilan Omar, submitted a resolution blocking an arms deal between Boeing and Israel.
In this year's NDAA, I've intro'd 7 amendments, including blocking specific US weapons transactions to:
- Saudi gov over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi
- Colombia gov over its violent crackdown on protesters, &
- Israeli gov over the bombing of Palestinian civilians, media centers https://t.co/eMHIApDLAk
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) September 17, 2021
Arden attacked the Democratic congressman and said: "I would expect a congresswoman to understand that Israel is protecting its citizens against Hamas, a declared terrorist organization.
The amendment to the legislation you are proposing gives further legitimacy to Hamas' heinous attacks against innocent civilians and to spread anti-Semitic lies.
"Israel and the United States have a critical strategic alliance for the security of the two countries. Israel is at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in the world, and our partnership has helped prevent terrorist attacks against American citizens many times in the past."
