Erkheim - On Saturday afternoon (September 18) a fatal traffic accident occurred on the A96 in the direction of Lindau.
At around 5.10 p.m., a car collided with a semitrailer with serious consequences.

A 65-year-old man had previously wanted to overtake the larger vehicle. To do this, he immediately switched from the right-hand lane to the overtaking lane. In doing so, however, he overlooked a BMW that was pulling up on the left lane at high speed. Its 27-year-old driver dodged the overtaking car to the right and hit the rear of the Polish articulated lorry with full force. The 25-year-old brother and co-driver of the BMW driver died. The driver himself was seriously injured and flown to the Kempten Clinic in the rescue helicopter, as reported by the Swabian South / West Police Headquarters.
A 24-year-old woman was still sitting in the car, who was also seriously injured and brought to the Memmingen Clinic by ambulance.
The Polish truck driver was unharmed.
The BMW and the semi-trailer, on which an axle had broken as a result of the impact, were no longer ready to drive and had to be recovered by a towing service.
Overall, there was property damage amounting to around 50,000 euros.
Investigations against 65-year-olds for negligent homicide
After consulting the public prosecutor, an accident expert was called in.
Investigations into negligent homicide were initiated against the 65-year-old who caused the accident.
"During the several hours of recording the accident and rescuing the vehicles involved, the entire lane in the direction of Lindau had to be closed and traffic at the Erkheim junction had to be diverted," says a press release.
The Mindelheim and Erkheim fire brigades as well as the Mindelheim motorway maintenance depot were on site and took care of the traffic measures.
