In his final »destruction video«, YouTuber Rezo denounces the mask deals in the Union. Now ex-CDU general secretary Polenz thanked him - not without small swipes at the political competition.

YouTuber Rezo: The Union is not doing well with him

After Rezo's final »destruction video« was published, the former CDU general secretary Ruprecht Polenz wrote to the YouTuber in an open letter.

Polenz, who is extremely active on Twitter and Facebook, thanked Rezo for the honest criticism and agreed with him on several points.

The video had "not let him fall asleep for a long time," and politicians could take advantage of many of the "gray areas" in Germany.

Paid sideline jobs that MPs are only offered because of their position in parliament are an “absolute no-go”.

Applicable transparency rules would have to be checked more closely.

Nevertheless, Polenz does not want to allow everything said in the video to apply unreservedly.

The mask deals in the Union mentioned by Rezo are "particularly blatant cases of corruption" - the "over 400,000 decent members of the CDU" opposed this.

Polenz referred to a new law with higher penalties for bribery that the Union, SPD, Greens and Left have jointly initiated after the mask deals.

Polenz also addressed other parties: The SPD also had building scandals.

The FDP and the Greens would also have received more large donations than the CDU in 2021.

However, this remark misses the issue of corruption, because party donations, provided they are stated in accordance with the rules, are expressly allowed in Germany.

In the past, the Union had often benefited particularly from them.

Polenz should also know this, who was in favor of donations in principle: "Because without political parties there is no representative democracy." And the money is needed so that parties can even finance their offices in the country.

In his 45-minute long video, Rezo had addressed corruption in German politics - and, as in his previous videos, once again focused on members of the Union.

The clip is the third and last part of a series of videos that Rezo published before the federal election, each entitled "Destruction".

Amthor, Spahn - and Scholz

The YouTuber criticized, among other things, the transparency rules for party donations, according to which only transfers of more than 10,000 euros have to be officially stated.

Companies could easily circumvent the regulation by donating 9999 euros several times.

In addition, Rezo recounts the lobbying affair surrounding Philipp Amthor (CDU) and the Augustus Intelligence company.

The YouTuber also mentions that some politicians do not adequately separate their secondary activities from their work as members of parliament.

Specifically, he refers to Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

Spahn's ministry had bought 67 million FFP2 masks at overpriced prices in the spring of 2020.

The deal was brokered by the daughter of the former CSU politician Gerold Tandler, Andrea Tandler.

But Rezo didn't just pick out Union politicians.

He also criticized Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) for his involvement in the Cum-Ex scandal.
