The Secretary of the Department of Health of Puerto Rico, Carlos Mellado, signed a decree that as of this Friday, September 17, attendance to mass events will be prohibited to minors under 12 years of age even if they have a viral test of covid-19 with negative rating.

So far, there are no vaccines for this group of people.

In mid-August, the government confirmed an increase in the number of positive cases on the island.

The decree, which was announced this Thursday, provides that also the organizers, producers, owners or administrators who carry out and organize events or public or private operations, will be obliged to demand evidence of vaccination in order to have 100 percent occupancy.

Meanwhile, those who choose to operate with 50% capacity must demand negative evidence of the virus detection test from those present within a maximum term of 72 hours before accessing the establishment.

The activities considered as multitudinous include, theaters, coliseums, centers and activities, and any other place in which events that promote the agglomeration of people are held, regardless of whether it is a closed or open-air establishment, they must comply with the stipulations.

“We must confront the increase in cases reflected during the past weeks and mitigation measures are necessary to safeguard health.

It is everyone's responsibility to be critical when attending a personal, business or professional activity.

In the same way, even if we are vaccinated, keep the use of the mask in these spaces.

We are going to protect ourselves and not give way to the variants that have arisen ”, said Mellado through a press release.

Other measures against covid-19

On August 30, the government had signed another decree in which additional temporary restrictions were established in the hours of private and commercial activity as of September 2.

The closure of all private operations serving the public was ordered from 12 midnight to 5 in the morning.

This schedule prohibition includes social activities, such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, among other similar ones, in public or private establishments.

This includes commercial, professional, non-professional, consumer service, sales, entertainment, and other locations.

The validity of this decree is until September 23, 2021.
