Are the collapse of the building in Holon and the evacuation in Bnei Brak related to the light rail works?
In an appeal to the Minister of Transportation, Rabbi Michaeli, MK Moshe Arbel (Shas) warns against the coincidence and demands supervision and control.
"The green line of the light rail is expected to pass in Holon on Serlin Street, where a light rail station will be built, and the development work of the line in Holon has already begun a short distance from where the building collapsed," the MK writes.
"At the same time, tenants were evacuated from two residential buildings in Bnei Brak, on Bar Ilan Street in Shikun H., which are also tens of meters away from the light rail works that pass through Jabotinsky. This coincidence, in such a short time, raises fears that the light rail works "In the stability of old buildings that are nearby due to the movement of the ground - and increase the risk of the buildings collapsing. The route of the light rail is known to pass through sloping areas in old buildings, especially in Bnei Brak, Ramat Gan, Holon and Bat Yam," writes MK Arbel.
As you may recall, about a week ago, a four-story building on Serlin Street in Holon collapsed, which fortunately was evacuated the day before thanks to the vigilance of one of the building's occupants, who warned of an "explosion" and the vigilance of firefighters who noticed cracks in the building and ordered its immediate evacuation.
The move saved the lives of dozens of the building's occupants, and of course the loss of heavy property in the abandoned apartments.
In his letter, he requests that the Ministry of Transportation, headed by Minister Merav Michaeli, closely monitor the effects of light rail works on the stability of buildings and roads near the works, and especially check the stability of old buildings and populated buildings near light rail.
In the letter, he also demanded an examination of the possible connection between the collapse of the building in Holon and the evacuation of the buildings in Bnei Brak to the railway works.

"Both incidents could have ended in disaster without the vigilance of the tenants. Close supervision and periodic inspections of particularly old buildings, and according to criteria to be determined, could save many lives."
