Lava and volcanic ash in the air: A volcano erupted in one of the Canary Islands

Authorities in La Palma have ordered residents of nearby villages to evacuate their homes after the volcano decided to emit boiling lava, and the Spanish army is assisting local teams.

In the last week there have been more than 20,000 earthquakes in the area, and this is the first significant eruption of the volcano since 1971

A volcano erupted today (Sunday) on the Canary Island of La Palma, sending lava eruptions and clouds of smoke and ash into the air.

Authorities on the Spanish island have begun evacuating elderly residents and farm animals from villages near the Combra Vieja National Park, where Mount Hagash is located, before the eruption around 3:15 p.m.

Within two hours, rivers of lava spilled from the mouth of emotion on the wooded slope of the mountain, and authorities ordered residents of four villages to evacuate with the help of soldiers.

Residents were urged to use their cell phones as little as possible.

According to the Spanish Civil Guard, it will be involved in the evacuation of some 5,000 to ten thousand residents from nearby villages, including El Paso and Los Ianos de Adriadena.

"In any scenario, do not approach the lava flow," authorities warned residents.

"If there is volcanic ash, stay in your homes."

Following the outbreak, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanquez has said he is postponing his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, and is making his way to the island.

Strabus Maltalidis, a volcano expert from the Geographical Institute of Spain, said the eruption created five cracks down the volcanic mountain and that he could not be sure how long it would last.

"We need to measure the lava every day and it will help us understand," he explained.
