Holzkirchen - The new semester of the housekeeping department at the Holzkirchen Agricultural School is running at full speed and with a changed curriculum.

Holzkirchen - The new semester of the housekeeping department at the Holzkirchen Agricultural School is running at full speed and with a changed curriculum.

The housekeeping department at the Holzkirchen Agricultural School recently started the new semester with 20 highly motivated students - under the direction of Gerlinde Simon and with a different curriculum.

There are now compulsory elective modules so that the interests of the students can be considered even more individually in their training.

"After the first few weeks, routine has now established itself in the processes," reports school principal Peter Nawroth.

“As always, the class and the school community benefit from the wide range of professional training of the students and the individual abilities of the people.” Living in the dormitory and the classroom classes currently taking place have contributed to the fact that learning groups have already been formed and close friendships have been made.

For the first time in a practical school experiment

After the curriculum was changed by the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, the teachers are now working for the first time in practical school trials.

In addition to the compulsory subjects, the young women now have the opportunity to deepen their interests in theory and practice and to expand the knowledge they have acquired through compulsory elective modules.

The students in Holzkirchen can choose from elective subjects such as “Garden and Nature”, “In-depth knowledge of textile work” and “Processing regional products in kitchen practice”.

Students with a close connection to agriculture often chose the specialization in the subject “Agriculture and employment combination”.

Women with a social focus in their first job could use the subject “everyday support” to further develop their social skills.

Alpine farming is also a topic

“There are many doors open to skilled workers trained in this way on the job market,” explains the school principal.

14 out of 20 students would like to acquire a qualification for trainer qualification with the compulsory elective module “Vocational and Work Pedagogy”.

The first weeks of school were already packed with practical and theoretical training.

The seminar on personality development also brought variety - thanks to face-to-face teaching.

The range of acquisition combinations was practically underpinned by a visit to a dairy farm with direct marketing.

Another typical feature of the school's catchment area is the alpine farming, which the students were introduced to through an alpine tour with the alpine specialist from the AELF Holzkirchen.

Online information day on September 23

In the next few weeks, school assignments in theory and practice as well as the work instruction test as part of the trainer aptitude will be on the timetable. The women only demonstrate the practical skills they have acquired from the compulsory kitchen, home and textile practice program at the end of the semester, which ends on December 7th after 25 weeks of school, in a practical examination. "After successfully passing the final exam and handing over certificates, hopefully all students will be able to use the title of specialist in nutrition and housekeeping," says Peter Nawroth.

On January 14, 2022, the next year at the Holzkirchen full-time school will start with a new semester. You can find out more about the home economics school on Thursday, September 23, as part of an online information evening. Those interested can register for this at the Agricultural School Holzkirchen, Housekeeping Department, by phone 08024/460390 or by e-mail to poststelle@aelf-hk.bayern.de.
