In Israel, too, the third-dose vaccine has been gradually approved. • The State of Israel is a source of leading epidemiological publications that serve as a basis for decisions made worldwide.

The booster model against the corona virus, which was implemented for the first time in the world in the State of Israel, received FDA approval on Tuesday, when the latter decided to start vaccinating those aged 65 and over and the medical staff in a third dose.

The FDA has not yet approved the vaccine for the entire population in the third dose.

The main reason for the rejection of the permit for the entire population is that in the US most young people were vaccinated late compared to Israel, and the decrease in the level of antibodies does not require the booster at this stage.

The State of Israel also acted gradually.

The administration of the third dose was first approved by members of the epidemiological treatment team at the Ministry of Health for organ transplant recipients, and was tested in a study led by Sheba Medical Center among heart transplant recipients.

The study findings indicated a significant increase in antibody levels among transplant recipients.

Subsequently, after identifying the decline in protection among the vaccinated who were vaccinated in January, the booster operation was gradually expanded to those aged 60 and over, to medical staff and other age groups in the general population.

As the first country to reach extensive population coverage after an accelerated vaccination campaign, and the first to begin administering the third dose, the State of Israel is a source of leading medical-epidemiological publications that serve as a basis for decisions made worldwide.

The vast amount of information accumulated has been published in leading international scientific and medical journals, having received validation from the best experts around the world in the field of infectious diseases.

Ten times more protection

A study examining the effectiveness of the booster dose, led by the Ministry of Health, the Gartner Institute in Sheba, the Weizmann Institute, the Hebrew University and the KI Institute, and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, found that the third dose greatly improved the protection of people 60 In Corona, and 18 times more because of a serious illness, compared to recipients of only two doses.

These days, hospital staffs are facing the fourth wave, which can be defined as a wave of the unvaccinated.

If at the beginning of the wave mainly adults were hospitalized, who fell ill due to the decrease in antibodies, then today most of those hospitalized in the corona intensive care units are not vaccinated.

You can understand the brother or the doctor in the corona ward, who feel frustrated when treating young patients in a critical condition, whose disease could have been prevented had we been vaccinated.

According to the principles of medical ethics, we are committed to treating every person as a person.

However, keep in mind that caring for those patients requires a lot of investment of resources and highly skilled manpower.

Some severe patients do not recover and even need prolonged treatment, including connection to a cardiopulmonary bypass machine (ACMO) and even a lung transplant.

In Sheba, about 70 corona patients and 35 recovering patients with the disease are hospitalized.

Of those recovering, 11 are in critical condition, including five respirators and three who are connected to Acmo.

All of this can be prevented and the current wave interrupted, if the citizens of Israel who have not yet done so are vaccinated.

These days, on the eve of Sukkot, which is characterized by the Ushpizin custom in which we host our Sukkot, we should all act with mutual responsibility and maintain each other, according to the mutual guarantee that has characterized the people of Israel for generations.
