The Magistrate's Court extended by five days the detention of Eran Azulai, the driver suspected of trampling the late child Barak Khoury on the eve of Yom Kippur.

Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court Judge Bnei Doron today (Sunday) extended for another five days the detention of Eran Azulai, 45, from Be'er Ya'akov, who is suspected of killing the late Barak Khoury, 12 and ten months old, after he ran over him one evening. Yom Kippur on Road 4 near Givat Shmuel.

Azoulay is also suspected of drunk driving.

A police spokesman said at the beginning of the hearing that he wanted to extend Azoulay's detention by eight days because it was a driver who was driving on Yom Kippur 40 minutes after the fast began, when he was drunk after an owl check.

This is the third time Azoulay has been caught driving while intoxicated, after in 2015 he caused an accident while intoxicated.

This time, as mentioned, led to the tragic result.

'The suspect was driving at high speed and did not pay attention to the road.

We are interested in filing the indictment while he is under arrest.

Although we have an owl test, after the arrest the suspect refused a blood test.

"We as a country have an interest in him getting an indictment that he is under arrest because this is a third case in which he was caught drunk," according to the police representative.

Azoulay's defense attorneys sought to release the prescription, arguing that his danger could be characterized by house arrest under the supervision of his family members and that further investigations could be carried out while he was under house arrest, especially given the fact that the police had his owl test data.

Judge Doron did not accept the defense attorneys' request to release Azoulay and noted in his decision that it was a tragic incident in which a 13-year-old minor who rode his bicycle on the eve of Yom Kippur was deprived of his life and that due to the suspect's traffic history and testimony.
