A week before the 2021 federal election * the CDU * and CSU * are lagging behind their claims and are behind the SPD in numerous surveys *.
According to a media report, this means that numerous prominent politicians in the Union have to fear for their direct mandates.
As reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, this also includes three ministers: Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (Saarbrücken constituency), Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (Saarlouis constituency) and Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner (Kreuznach constituency).
All three are not in first place in their constituencies.

The situation is similar with other well-known politicians in the Union.
CDU general secretary Paul Ziemiak, CDU top candidate in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Philipp Amthor, integration commissioner Annette Widmann-Mauz, Junge Union chairman Tilman Kuban, state minister for culture Monika Grütters and ex-constitution protection president Hans-Georg Maaßen are named.
Many of the prominent examples are, however, secured by the respective state list of the party - in other words: It would probably move into the 20th Bundestag of history even without a direct mandate.
With a probability of 85 percent, the Union will lose a total of 29 direct mandates in the upcoming federal election.
According to the data collected, most of them go to the SPD *.
