TSV Unterhaching celebrated its Olympic silver medalist Lukas Dauser with a reception in the local sports arena.

Unterhaching

- For Lukas Dauser, of all places, it is a crushing defeat at his old home - there is no other way of saying it. In the handstand race against 16-year-old Fabian Stemmer, the exceptional gymnast from TSV Unterhaching only crossed the finish line several seconds after his competitor and club colleague. The 28-year-old bears his defeat alone with composure. Even more: As a reward for the victory, the visibly impressed young gymnast from TSV can even pick up the silver medal that Lukas Dauser brought to the sports arena.

The badge comes from the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the gymnast from TSV Unterhaching sensationally came second on the parallel bars on August 3rd.

This success is the reason why his club is giving him a celebratory reception today, why a good 150 people came, and why Dauser is taking part in the handstand race as part of an interlude.

The Vice Olympic Champion said he was “a little tired”.

"I've been on the road a lot in the last few weeks, there have been a lot of inquiries." But the next moment the 28-year-old snapped a smile and quickly added: "But I'm trying to enjoy it."

Lukas Dauser remembers the late trainer legend Richard Hörle

In Unterhaching, where Dauser trained until he moved to the federal base in 2012, this is obviously not difficult for him. He is still passionate about his club, emphasizes the gymnast. And in his words of thanks, he not only mentions his parents, who are sitting in the stands, but also Richard Hörle, the TSV coaching legend who passed away in 2020, "with whom I started gymnastics in the Hachinga Hall when I was six" Dauser. "And who will hopefully watch from above today and be happy too."

In any case, Oskar Paulicks, the head of department at Unterhachinger Turner, wears a grin from ear to ear. Lukas Dauser has not been training here for a long time, but at the federal base - first in Berlin and since 2020 in Halle. And yet he is "an absolute homegrown", emphasizes Paulicks. To what extent does he hope that its success in Tokyo will also boost gymnastics in Unterhaching? “It's not like we get a hundred registrations the next day,” says Paulicks, who already experienced something similar in 2012, when Marcel Nguyen - he also does gymnastics for TSV Unterhaching - brought home two silver medals from the Olympic Games in London. "But you can tell that there is more interest," says the department head."And especially for our young gymnasts, such a success is a big push and they pull themselves up - because they see what is possible."

In fact, there are many young faces who stand in a long queue for an autograph from Lukas Dauser after the speeches and interludes.

He signs everything that is held out to him in a deeply relaxed manner - and just as readily poses for dozens of souvenir photos.

The sports soldier had previously put his signature on the community's golden book, where Marcel Nguyen was allowed to immortalize himself after winning a medal.

His name can also be found at the entrance to the hall, where a sign reads: “Marcel Nguyen's training facility.” Mayor Wolfgang Panzer promises that Lukas Dauser should now be given a similar honor.

Looking at the sign, he announces: "We as a congregation will think about something."
