The Director of Readiness and Emergency at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Hassaba, revealed that the occupancy rate of intensive care beds for Corona patients in public hospitals designated for confirmed and suspected cases of corona infection in Damascus has reached 100 percent, and a number of Corona patients have been transferred to hospitals in the countryside of Damascus with the aim of accepting all cases that need intensive care .

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Hassaba said that the spread of the Corona virus locally is witnessing an increase, as yesterday it recorded 190 new infections, to be the largest daily number since the first case was announced in March last year, noting that the highest daily number of infections was recorded during the first peak of the virus’s spread, reaching 105 infections in the country. The 13th of August last year, while the highest daily number of injuries reached 169 during the second peak on the 18th of December last year, and in the third peak, the highest daily number of injuries reached 172 and was recorded on the 22nd of last March.

Hessaba pointed out that the cumulative number of injuries accepted in hospitals is currently 2000 in various governorates, noting that the governorates of Latakia, Aleppo, Damascus and its countryside and Hama record the largest number of injuries during the current wave.

Dr. Hassa confirmed that the injuries during the current wave are less dangerous and faster in response to treatment, as the hospitalization period during the past waves ranged from 15 to 20 days, while during the current wave it ranged between 10 and 12 days, indicating that the number of deaths is less than the previous waves, where it was recorded Twice the current number of deaths with fewer injuries.

Hessaba considered that the injuries recorded yesterday are not necessarily the highest, and a greater increase in the number of injuries can be recorded in the coming days, stressing the importance of adhering to preventive health measures and not complacency in their application, in addition to taking the vaccine against Corona, especially since all vaccines are safe and effective.
