Freising

- The parish of St. Lantpert in Lerchenfeld had two reasons to celebrate last Sunday.

While a generous donation made a candlestick possible for the church, the long-awaited art project in front of the church has finally been unveiled.

It is important to the parish that its art remains tangible - it should connect people and soon go on trips.

The voltage

The tension among the children, who of course already knew the art object, was nevertheless very high.

Because as soon as they were released from the children's fair, they were allowed to unveil the art benches.

Four seating options in different colors and shapes under the motto “Bank connection”, which should have one thing above all else: create a place for encounters of all kinds.

The description

“At the beginning there was the question of what unites us and what we want to connect,” said parish officer Kerstin Schwing: Only the parish, the people from the Lerchenfeld district or further afield?

Ultimately, those responsible decided that it should be an art project for all of Freising and not just a colorful bench in front of the church.

As diverse as the people are, Schwing emphasized, the colors and shapes of the seating are just as diverse.

What Schwing particularly likes and which actually defines the project per se: The bank connection is mobile and can and will therefore be set up alternately in Freising.

The intention

Perhaps, according to Schwing's wish, the seating modules will soon appear in the city or on the Korbinians Bridge.

In any case, the goal is to find new places for the benches every now and then - so not only in the church environment: as a statement and as an invitation to rest and for a nice conversation, which can always be combined in new ways in the form of poles of calm or islands of dialogue in the middle of a turbulent world.

Above all, the art object wants to create connections and relationships with different people, cultures and orientations in the city and the emerging city church of Freising.

The project

The bank connection project was created as part of a cooperation between the city pastoral department in the Archbishop's Office in Munich and the parish of St. Lantpert; the Leisure Foundation was responsible for the design and production.

After the blessing by pastoral consultant Achim Est, the innovative benches were also inaugurated by the children, while lounge music was played by a DJ to ring the bells.

"Try it!

Sit down and talk about God and the world there ”, so the final invitation from Schwing to the numerous visitors to the service and the curious.

The candlestick

Thanks to a donation from the Catholic women's community in Freising, which was dissolved last year, a large candlestick could also be purchased.

The candlestick, which was ceremoniously consecrated on Sunday, was designed and designed by parish council member Martin Schmidt.

Now believers in St. Lantpert can light soot-free candles for their needs and wishes.
