Investigations Gentlemen: With all due respect to Ilana Dayan, there is a presenter that the public believes in more - Walla! Brenze

While even exposing a reporter from a niche newspaper can bring down a prime minister, and still, there is important weight to how the public perceives the quality of journalistic investigations | Special: Walla! Through Direct Polls LTD, Brenze examined who the public perceives as an honest journalist in Israel. Part C - Writings and submissions

The presenter of "The Pipe" on Network 13 is the most trusted investigative man in Israel - according to a special Walla! Brenze. The survey was conducted by Shlomo Pilber and Tzuriel Sharon through Direct Polls LTD for Walla! Brenze, and tested the level of credibility of journalists from different coverage areas and platforms. The Walla! We chose to leave off the list.

In the first part, we examined who are the most reliable commentators in Israel by areas: political | Political | Economic | legal.

In the second part, we examined who owns the weekly influential column in the written press.

But first, an introduction: in the last three years, the Israeli press has had to "deal" with 4 election campaigns and a global epidemic that is still giving its signals. During this period, the public need to have a good, high-quality and, above all, reliable press became more important to us than ever before.

Yes, everyone has opinions - and the position discourse is dominant: but this time we decided in Walla!

Brenze that the survey will not examine who shouts louder, who gets more likes, who is mouthed bigger and who tweets the best - and we chose to return to the mother base: who is the most reliable.

Who is perceived by the public as the non-biased reporter and the objective commentator.

And at the end of the long introduction, a methodological reservation: just as in political polls - it should be remembered that in the end, polls are also a limited, sometimes superficial thing, which does not necessarily faithfully reflect everything - and certainly biased and truthful for the time being.

We will also mention that many times, certainly when it comes to journalists - in the public eye there is not really a difference between credibility and popularity, as people tend to appreciate and admire those who are perceived as credible in their eyes.

We will also add that the list of journalists was compiled by Walla!

Brenze and Direct Polls LTD and it is possible that elsewhere a different list of names would have developed.

And yet, the line that guided us was an attempt to get a glimpse of how the top Israeli journalists are perceived by the general public.

Investigation Department: What is behind the data?

Another dilemma is in the definition itself: what is an investigation.

Is Chaim Etgar's examination of an impostor equivalent to Ilana Dayan's investigation into failures in the flotilla?

Is Drucker's flying flight or submarines at all comparable to an investigation - important as it may be - about Shai Avital?

The more difficult and complicated the measurement among reporters and commentators, the more difficult it is for investigators. Is it possible to test an impact on the agenda? Is "change-making" exposure necessarily also popular? Is familiarity necessarily an indication of effectiveness? The best example that emerges from the survey is that of Gidi Weitz - the investigative reporter for the Haaretz newspaper. On the one hand, it holds a series of investigations and resounding revelations, chief among them the one that led to the opening of the 4,000 case. And on the other hand, due to being in an almost niche newspaper (in terms of the extent of exposure), close to half of the public does not know its name at all. In the case of Kalman Liebskind, the public seems to know his name better, partly due to his presence on screen and on the radio, but the platform on which he advertises - the print - places him next to Weitz in a built-in inferior position.

In the rest of the data, there seems to be a fairly significant match between the screen hours that the investigators receive, and the level of credibility they receive - not without surprises at the top.

These and other questions, will remain at this stage, at least for us, open.

Jennifer Snokel or not, 63% of the public perceive as quality.

Drucker's problem

One way or another, if there is a salient finding in the data line that emerges from the Walla! After all, it is Brenze who presents "The Pipe" on Network 13 Guy Lerer apparently succeeds in producing a winning mix, at least in the way the public perceives it, and enjoys the highest level of credibility. Only behind it stands the almost iconic brand (in Israeli terms) of Keshet 12 Ilana Dayan.

Another interesting statistic, which also indicates how much the Israeli public is moving to the right, but also the problem of the "source" program in communication with the general public, is Raviv Drucker's low position on the list, as well as the fact that a larger percentage of viewers do not believe him.

The sample was edited by Shlomo Pilber and Tzuriel Sharon using Direct Polls LTD for Walla! Brenze, between the dates 25 to 26 August 2021, using a digital system combined with a panel, among 540 adult respondents (18+) from the entire Hebrew-speaking population in Israel exposed to radio and television communications. Statistical sampling error + 4.5% + with a probability of 95%.
